Egg allergies are often seen in young children and a large majority resolve by the age of 7-9 years old. It is pretty rare to see adult onset of such an allergy, but it does occur. You should pay attention to your body's reactions as a true allergy can produce some very significant uncomfortable and even life threatening effects. I would like to know more of how this began with you and how it manifests (symptoms).

Could it be that you are reacting to some other substance that you are coming into contact associated with the eggs and are misinterpreting the cause?

To answer one question, the incidence of allergy to eggs is down there in the 1-2% range for adults.

The literature speaks of loss of oral tolerance (seeing reactions in the oral or mouth mucosa), loss or change in gastric or intestinal flora through stress or disease, or change in the integrity of the intestinal mucosa as being precursors to this kind of sensitivity occurring.

One point being that changes in your digestive system or manifestation of intestinal disorders like Crohn's, celiac disease or ulcerative colitis can precede sudden adult onset. If you are experiencing other discomforts of the GI tract over a longer timeline than just this effect you may want to get yourself to an appropriate specialist for diagnosis.

One thing important to note is the ubiquitous occurrence of eggs in many prepared foods and of course the need to be aware that most vaccines are grown in eggs and may cause problems to egg allergic individuals.
