Great TV series for when my brother comes to town?

We want to have a marathon TV/Popcorn extravaganza.

Stuff we've seen and like:
Fringe, Lost, Alias, Vampire Diaries, The Wire, Breaking Bad, 24. Damages, Band of Brothers.

You get the idea boy-movie style action and the series has a whole story arc rather than individual shows.

Thanks for the help

"Firefly", Joss Whedon's fabulous sci-fi series available on DVD, and follow it up with the movie that builds on this and wraps up a lot of things, "Serenity"

It sounds like we have very similar taste -- I have watched and enjoyed many of the same series.

My recommendations: Deadwood (an excellent Western), Battlestar Galactica (SciFi but so much more) and the Sopranos.

Sounds like a great weekend. Let us know what you land on.

    Sons of Anarchy:
It's about a California motorcycle gang and rival gangs and the police and there's a lot of corruption and guns (and motorcycles, obviously) and drunken sex with trashy biker chicks and tattoos. It also has a slight Shakespearean background (Hamlet).

    Battlestar Galactica:
Sci fi, space, dark, political, mysterious, fantastic acting.

Babylon 5 (it's getting old though, and starting to feel dated... so watch it soon if at all):
Sci fi, set in space, fantastic story, interesting sub-plots. The first season kinda sucks though, but the second, third, and fourth are some of the best television I've ever seen.

    The Pacific:
Just like "Band of Brothers" but in the Pacific Theatre of WWII instead of the German Theatre.

    Dexter:
A homicide detective who leads a double life killing murderers who've beaten the system or haven't been caught. He can do it because he's a sociopath himself... not an ounce of emotion.

Any of the Star Trek series but The Next Generation is probably the best. The first season is complete garbage unfortunately, but if you can get through that, most of the rest is great fun.

Series that I thought sucked: Rome. Stupid and plodding. But that's just my opinion.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Hands down one of the best series ever made, and hilariously great to watch with family/friends.

I recently watched and enjoyed Dollhouse, another series by Joss Whedon. (Although if you guys haven't seen Firefly and Serenity, I'd go for those first.) It had its weak points, but it also had tons of action, pretty girls (and boys), sci-fi leanings, and a larger story arc. Also, it's only 2 (short) seasons long, so you would probably be able to get through all of it on a visit.

Have you guys seen "Prison Break"?? It is good. If you like "24," you will probably like it, but I would imagine you've already seen it.

There is also this show about terrorists called "Sleeper Cell" that is really good, but I think it only lasted for two seasons. I really liked it a lot though. I can't remember if it was an HBO or a Showtime series, but I'm sure you could find it on DVD by now or through itunes. I actually liked "Sleeper Cell" better than "Prison Break" I think...Hard to choose.

I've heard that people really like that vampire show...what is it? Oh yah "True Blood." I watched a couple of shows, but I get scared too easily, so I didn't want to watch the rest. Other people really love it though.

Well, there's always the 18 part "The Prisoner" from 1968... there is a definite beginning and two-parter end. But it is almost all individual episodes that will have you talking and discussing what's going on through most of the episodes.

Not as good as the X-files.
