Has anyone gotten a haircut at the Aveda school?

I'm considering letting one of their students use me as a guinea pig. Has anyone gone there to get your haircut?
Good idea, or bad idea?

    good idea!

pluses: extremely cheap, you smell like pretty plants afterwards, and you get a  decent cut.  there's a supervisor to watch over and and make sure things ended up the way you'd like it.

minuses: it is a looong process. the student has to have their plan approved and critiqued before and after, and if there's a lot of action at the time you visit, you could be there for an hour and a half.

i've never been disappointed!  also, it's so very delightfully CHEAP!

Not to discredit the many talented stylists-in-training of the Aveda school, but…

I went in for a basic half an inch trim. It took about 3 hours, and the student took 4 inches of hair in order to make it even. This is after she had to get her instructor to correct her mistakes.

I'm not someone who really cares about the style of my hair, and I knew what I was getting into in terms of time. So it wasn't exactly a horrifying experience. I understand that the only way for people to learn is by doing. I paid my $20 and wrote it all off as having helped someone learn. Still, I haven't been back and don't plan to. I'd much rather find someone that A) I know will give me a good cut and b) can go to on a regular basis.

The school is what it is—a place where people are LEARNING to style hair. It's a mixed bag. You could get the best student in the class or the worst for a fairly cheap price. Go at your own risk.

Aveda does a great job, especially for the price. The one issue I had was I would find a really good stylist who understood what I was going for and then, a few months later, he/she would graduate.

Yep, I get my hair cut every six weeks or so. It's cheap, I've never had a bad haircut (some are better than others, but they're always pretty good), and in my experience at least, the whole process has become faster recently. I would recommend it.
