What is the financial cost of raising a child from cradle to college?

I know I read a researched dollar amount somewhere. The kids' dad and I have a bet going on what it is. Anybody?

The NY Times says it costs $222,360 to raise a child from birth to age 18. If the child wants help paying for college, it will cost even more! (Scary, eh?)
