What was the deal between the late Dave Stevens (The Rocketeer) and artist Laura Molena?

She has done a series of paintings titled "Naked Dave" over his objections, that really aren't all that bad. No frontal nudity, but a skilled representation of a sci fi guy in various settings.

But he seemed to be outraged by it. Don't know why, they're rather nice!

And now, there's a short film documentary (very crude) on "Naked Dave" that is all about her, not him.

It just seems like so much misplaced energy to me.
Am I wrong?

    Yes, you're wrong. Art is never "misplaced energy".
