  1 0 Lilting Missive is dead on. I would also check the REI calendar to see when the next garage sale is (when they sell off returned/unsold/rental gear). I've heard that the downtown REI has a permanent "garage sale" bin, but I invariably forget to check it out whenever I'm down there.   1 0 Second Ascent, in Ballard, has the best selection I've seen. Play it Again Sports, by REI, seems to often have decent stuff. I was recently over at the Bellevue Goodwill and noticed that they had more than the usual Goodwill selection of 20-year-old skis. I wasn't checking prices but I'd bet they're cheap.
