Similar to the other answers here, I've heard there is no danger to Seattle or any other part of the west coast. Should the nuclear particles becomes airborne, it would likely take 5 or 6 days to travel across the Pacific Ocean, by which time any radiation would have dispersed into the atmosphere.

It depends on where the wind blows and how much fire (see:smoke with radioactive particles in it) there is. If we get a full meltdown/large fire there will be radioactive particles in the air and possibly coming to us. If its just the uranium plants that have a melt down, making sure you have plenty of iodine will prevent you from taking a radioactive particle into your thyroid and radiating the cells around it. If the plutonium plant has a full meltdown....well we're all kinda fucked.

The effect on background radiation levels would be negligable. More than likely it would not reach the United States.
