I don't think women are less interested in porn; I think they are more turned off by masochistic porn made by men, made for men, which happens to be mainstream porn. I know lots of girls my age who watch porn on a regular basis. I think, though, if there were more female directors, we would see a huge jump in women who publicly acknowledge watching ans liking porn.

No offense, but I wasn't referring specifically to you and your friends when I made that broad (pun not omitted) generalization. It's a fact that women don't consume porn in the same numbers that men do.

Now, that may be because porn made by women for women is less common, and I'm all for more women behind the lens in porn. Given that women who consume porn is a quickly growing demographic, I'm sure we will see more in the future. But women are generally less interested in porn, if we use the market as a gauge.

All that said, Hump! is really nothing like mainstream porn. It's more of a celebration of sexuality than masturbatory fodder.

I would be interested in seeing any hard statistics that factualize the claim that women are less interested in porn as compared to men. If you find anything (besides right wing christian studies), please feel free to message it to me.

I won't bother, given that there is a mountain of evidence supporting my generalization. You can use Google.

Your first link doesn't have any numbers about men's porn usage vs. women's.

From your second link: "In the first three months of 2007, according to Nielsen/NetRatings, approximately one in three visitors to adult entertainment Web sites was female." Can you guess the sex of the other 2/3rds?

Your third link also lacks data about male vs. female porn consumption.

Your fourth link is a link to a book on Amazon.

Are we done here? Or do we need to move into a semantic discussion about "interest?"
