What are the best, local CSA options in Seattle (Capitol Hill)?

With spring here, I'm looking to sign-up for CSA. There are a lot of options, I know, and a search of the internet turned up a lot of information -- but most of it was over a year old. Ideally, I'm looking for three things: 1) Delivery to Capitol Hill 2) Washington-grown produce 3) Offers boxes of various sizes (family of 2, family of 4, etc.) Do you all have a favorite? Or have you had a horrid experience?

I'm a big fan of Full Circle Farm

Delivery to Capitol Hill: Capitol Hill - 17th Ave East, Ada’s Books (Broadway near East Roy St), E Valley Street, 23rd Ave NE & Aloha St, 15th Ave and Madison, Miller Community Center (19th Ave E between E Thomas St and E Republican St).

Washington-grown produce: Most of it, plus some from Oregon, CA, and Mexico, which means great citrus. All from organic, family farms, which benefit from support no matter where they're from.
Produce origin is clearly labeled, box contents are flexible, and you could select just WA produce, if you wish to eat local.

Various-sized boxes: Specify a two-person or a family box, choose to have it delivered every week or every other week.

Bonus: Add organic dairy, meat, bread, etc, to your order. Flexibility on selection, length of membership. High quality. Exceptional customer service.

I get a two-person box every other week for about $34 (I pick up rather than have it delivered) and have never eaten better.

Can I recommend my own farm? My husband and I live on Capitol Hill, but own and operate Local Roots farm in Duvall. We offer a 20 week CSA from June to October that consists only of produce grown on our farm. We have two sizes, and a pickup location at Aloha and Boylston, near the Harvard Exit theater.

I am working on making our house a new CSA pick-up site for Oxbow Farm. Their season runs for 20 weeks, from June-October. In order to make this happen, there needs to be 10+ shareholders (members) who want to pick up at our site.

First, let me share my experience with Oxbow Farm.

I was introduced to them when I was working as a cook at Lark (restaurant) in Capitol Hill about 6 years ago. I loved the organic vegetables that they were bringing to the restaurant and selling at the farmers' market (they sell at Madrona on Fridays). So, when I found out they offer a CSA, I signed my family up! The first few years we split our share with another family. We'd pick up one week, and they'd pick up the next, and so on. Last year, they offered, for the first time, a small share, at a reduced price. We decided to try that out on our own. It was great! Our family consists of 2 adults, and 2 small children, ages 4 and 2 years. I felt the small share was enough to get us what we needed for the week, but still allowed me the pleasure of visiting farmers markets and adding more goodies without having too much leftover, if any at all.

I truly love all the produce we receive from Oxbow, even in "tough" seasons. But, there are other perks to being a CSA shareholer: a) the weekly newsletter. There are recipes, veggie facts, news about what's happening on the farm. b) the fall harvest party! It's so fun. There's a pumpkin patch, where you actually get to cut your pumpkins right off the vine, hay rides, games, apple cider pressing, and tons of delicious food made by CSA members themselves. It's a wonderful chance to meet your farmers and see where it all happens.

Interested? Share prices are $400 for Small Share and $600 for Family Share. I would love it if you say you're interested in joining the pick up site in Montlake, which will be on Tuesdays. But, Oxbow does offer two other pickups in the area during the week, 1)Marigold and Mint in the Melrose Market and 2) Madrona Farmers' Market.

big, big fan of helsing junction, both the people and the food are amazing. been eating their produce for five or six years now. all their stuff is great, but the strawberries and snap peas are routinely the best i've ever had, and continue to blow my mind.

on the other hand, if you're a spinach person, last year full cirlce's baby spinach was super sweet and delicious and some next-level shit. i ate it by the handful right out of the box all summer and it was my favorite veggie from anywhere that year.

Seattle Weekly has an article from last year listing their picks for top 5 CSA's with some really good information about pickup locations, box sizes, etc. There are a few other good suggestions in the comments. http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/voracious/2010/05/top_five_csas.php

Local Roots Farm (localrootsfarm.com and blog). Great value and variety. Grown in Duvall, delivered to Boylston just south of Aloha. Park and pick up. Comes with a weekly email reminder filled with recipes and stories about the farm. The farmers are Capitol Hill natives.
