What are three easy changes I can make to my house?

I want to freshen up our place, but am limited by time and money. What are some simple things I can do to reinvigorate our living spaces? We live in a small house with 2 kids. It's not too, too messy, but could definitely use some new organization.
Any general tips to simplify and liven things up?

Thanks for the question. Start by strategizing if the function of each room is what really what you intend it to be. Is there just too much stuff for the space? Choose the cream of the crop of your collection and donate the other pieces.

You can rotate your children's toys - box some of the unused ones for a month and bring them back out on a rainy day. When we give our children too many options of things to do, you are not instilling good decision making skills.

Are you displaying the valuable keepsakes that you cherish wisely or are they hidden somewhere in a closet or in the garage?

Keep a trash and recycle can in every family living space so that things that can be tossed or recycled, take little effort.

Donate your duplicates. Clear space is restful.

Wishing you a tidier, organized home!

    1) Recycle/donate/purge what you're not using.
    2) Find a couple of photos that you've been meaning to put in frames, then put them in frames (I found some great ones recently at TJ Maxx Northgate for $5-10 each, and have found them cheaper at Goodwill) and hang them up.
3)I don't know how you feel about painting, but it's a great way to freshen up a room.

    Good luck!

    1. Take a look at how much paper is getting in the way and consider a simplified way to process it.....DAILY.

    2. That might mean re-visiting your filing system and asking if it really represents the way YOU think about information.

    3. And a FUN one.....take down your art and hide you decoration for a few days. Then put them back up...but first ask: DO I really want to be looking at this? Is this really the right place for it??

From a conscious design perspective, one of my favorite things to change is the artwork in your space -- easy too.

Look at the existing pieces you have and how they connect to you -- what feelings do they conjure? Ask yourself if they are lighting you up or taking you down, are they making a contribution or is it time to let go of that old smurf poster from your room as a kid?

If they past the test then ask yourself what areas of your life they support: relationship and intimacy, career, health, creativity? You can download a bagua (life theme map in feng shui) and figure out where those areas are in your home and hang your art accordingly. A free download can be found on my site: http://www.piperlaurisalogga.com/writer-designing-words/writer-downloads

If this feels tricky let me know and I can further clarify.

It's amazing what can happen in terms of lifting your spirits and blazing a trail for your desires when you make a simple conscious choice that you see everyday.

Hanging tip: Groups of small pieces artfully displayed can have the same effect, and sometimes be more interesting, than larger ones to fill the space. Avoid sprinkling the small stuff around on its own, it will end of feeling weak and flat.

When I get bored with Chez Vel-DuRay, I rearrange the furniture. That always helps me.
