Why have so many movie theaters stopped having later start times?

The Oak Tree and The Majestic Bay seem to have start times in the 7pm range, but not much after that. Why?

    I would guess that they don't sell enough tickets in the later hours. The last two times I went to the Uptown, which suffered from low ticket sales in general, I was the only person in the theater for a 9 p.m. show. Shortly thereafter, they got rid of their late showings.
