Are there financial advisors for people with not much money?

I've heard about financial advisors that would LOVE to see you -- if you have a hundred grand to play with. Does anybody know a good financial advisor for couples without much money in Seattle? Just folks trying to plan a future?

My best advice would be to check out some of the seminars and workshops offered by local groups like Financial Education Partners: http://www.everyoneiswelcome.org/financial_ed_providers.php http://www.dfi.wa.gov/financial-education/non-profit.htm.

You'll get really great basic education and meet financial professionals that are likely to be willing to consult with you after the class is over.

Try your bank. Many banks have investment advisors in the branch and they commonly work with people with small amounts to invest.

That's the $64,000 question. Most advisors charge in some way- this lessens the amount you can potentially gain. I've been looking for the same thing for years without success. Depending on your needs (debt relief, retirement, savings) it may be simpler to find folks in your friendship circle that manage their money well and can help navigate your way. Or, we could start a club filled with like-minded individuals to support one another and split research time!
