Anyone know where to find fashionable bike helmets?

I'm an avid biker and not hard on the eyes. But I always look like a tool in the white and blue safety helmet I wear around. I'd love to be able to cruise up and down broadway and not look like an idiot, but I'm also unwilling to risk brain trauma by not wearing a helmet.

Anyone know of nice helmets that protect your dome and are fashion forward?

I long ago decided that it is impossible to look good in a helmet. Or at least, it's impossible to look as good in a helmet as you normally look. Any helmet makes you look like a penis. It also pretty much ruins any other fashion choices you've made.

That said, the best looking helmets I've found are these: http://www.nutcasehelmets.com/en/site

They're the full hardshell type, so they'd be horribly hot in the summer, but at least for winter riding I intend on buying one in the future.

For summer riding, assuming you need the ventilated helmet, I think you're pretty much stuck looking like a cyborg penis from the 1970s.

To see stuff in person, try Hub and Bespoke (http://www.hubandbespoke.com/ ) in Fremont, or Dutch Bikes in ballard.

Saw this question and immediately thought "Nutcase"! So for that reason I want to upvote the first response from "LM" but I take issue with it because summers here aren't 'horribly hot', so I don't think this helmet or any others are going to be noticeably uncomfortable, nor will you look like a penis. Just don't ride while wearing a beige turtleneck.

You're doing it all wrong. You don't need a helmet because you don't need to actually ride the bike up and down Broadway. You WALK your fixie around.

Hub and Bespoke has interesting helmets. But I agree with Lilting Missive that it's just not possible to look stylish in a helmet—and that's OK! As you pointed out, it's dangerous to not wear one, and those helmet-less hipsters won't look very fashion-forward when their heads are cracked open on the sidewalk.

My first thought is Yakkay, which is available online, and should be retailing in the U.S. starting this summer.

Still a helmet (which, yes, always look like helmets)? Yes. Expensive? Yes, definitley. But if you can overlook the fact that their website only shows the helmets on women, they have some fashion forward, unisex helmets that are, if nothing else, unique.

I'll third the Nutcase vote, and also mention Pryme helmets. Nutcase has more interesting patterns on theirs, while Pryme tends to be more of a blank slate. Whichever fits better, really.

I've worn such helmets for years in Seattle and in long-distance summer rides, and they're not as bad as they're made out to be for venting. You don't need all those vents--if anything, they're more for the sake of reducing weight.
