How do I get myself, bicycle in tow, from Tacoma to Seattle via public transit on a Saturday afternoon?

I'm going on an overnight Friday/Saturday bike camping trip in Mt. Rainier NP with 100 plus miles of riding and would rather cut the tedious Seattle-Tacoma or hilly Vashon parts out of the trip.

Sounder's got me covered on Friday morning, but the pickings are slim for Saturday. Since I'm usually riding my bike around town, I find the byzantine mysteries of the Metro trip finder website impenetrable. Is Amtrak ($18 with my bike) my only hope?

You're better off going here . You can fill in your parameters and find the long-haul buses that metro doesn't usually offer. Probably set you back $2.25 or so. They all have bike racks as well!

Can you describe more about "byzantine mysteries of the Metro trip finder website impenetrable"?

I plugged in a tacoma start place, a seattle downtown destination and a Saturday afternoon time and it spat out some easy instructions.

Specifically, you'll likely need to use the (SoundTransit) 594:

Takes about 45 minutes to go from tacoma dome to downtown seattle on Saturday afternoons. The main obstacle will be if the bike racks spots are filled when the bus gets to your stop. I don't know how popular this route is with bikers.
