You asked "why are we here". There is no reason why we are here. The question "why" presupposes a purpose, but the purpose does not exist, therefore the word "why" does not have any ontological bearing on anything real. Not only is there no purpose, but the very concept of "purpose" here doesn't exist; it doesn't refer to anything. If you want to get technical, the reason for life is simply to create more life -- to continue and extend the reach of our DNA, in competition with all other forms of DNA. If you're looking for the "meaning of life", you are chasing your tail. The word "meaning" doesn't mean anything, and neither does the word "life".
