Both Arosa and Besalu are great ideas. But I have the best cuz it's cheaper, better and in the right neighborhood!

Go to Eltana's bagels on 12th (around Pine) and get some dozens of bagels with some shmeer. If you get there early they will be coming out of the oven and you better get extras cuz you will eat half of them on the way to the office.

Trust me on this. You will not find a better bagel and bagels are great because as much as I am a sugar/butter lover, this is a better way to start the day.

Did you give me the mushroom yet?

How much $ can you drop? If you can spend about $3-$5/person I'd make arrangements before hand with James at Cafe Besalu. His pastries are too good. He wouldn't let you walk out with that much without first putting in an order, though, so don't ust show up expecting that he'd be able to fill a box. It's a small operation and he only mkaes enough to get through the day with the regular walk in customers.

pastries are all well and good, 2011 ripened fruits would be a treat. It's a little early yet, I had some pineapple from Costa Rica the other day, it was so much nicer than the rock hard almost sour stuff I find in 'fresh fruit' cups in my work place cafeteria.

A little outside your geographical range, but Arosa Cafe (there's one on First Hill and one in Madison Park) has these little snack waffle bombs of deliciousness. About $2.50 each, filling and not forgettable.

What about coffee and treats from Caffe Ladro on 15th or Downtown. They have excellent baked goods, both savory and sweet.
