A fantastic restaurant for my mum's birthday - suggestions?

So my mom is turning, erm, 45...for the 16th time...and my family is looking for a great restaurant we can all take her to.

Some caveats, for what they're worth:

*American, Thai and Indian are some favorites, but other cuisines would be just fine. No sushi though, as it squicks out the birthday lady.

*Actual hungry-people-sized portions of food served, not the bullshit tiny-food-on-big-plates screw job that seems prevalent (Zoe, I'm looking at you and your stupid door curtain).

*We've got some allergies to consider, so a menu that's not fixed (sorry, Art of the Table).

*Speaking of allergies, there are a few shellfish allergies in this group, so a place that won't kill those people would be good, too. Serving shellfish is fine, as long as the place won't, say, absentmindedly put tiny shrimp bits in a salad (true story).

*Some lovely scenery with lovely things or lovely people to look at would be most pleasant.

Price is less of a consideration than great food and a great experience. We'll be a group of five - no kids. Anywhere within Seattle or within an hour-ish drive outside would be delightful. Thanks!

Given your conditions, I recommend Cafe Juanita. It's a little out of town, perfect for a special occasion, and the food is amazing. Chef Holly Smith and her team will make it a memprable evening.

    maybe Poppy? http://poppyseattle.com/about

Their food is very Northwest-focused but shows hints of Indian and Mediterranean flavors. They have multiple set menus (each person gets a whole platter of small dishes all to themselves), but are pretty good about accommodating switching a dish to one less allergy-inducing. Anyways, I think their food is unique and great, you get to taste lots of different things... its just fun to eat their food.
