I know I've bought tempeh from QFC on Broadway and pike. I discovered QFC's often have this hidden 'natural food' section somewhere by the yoghurt or deli meats. Most of the Tofu, and meat or cheese substitutes are sequestered there. I pretty sure Madison Market sells it too, however that is more Central district I suppose.

Whatever you do, don't go to Safeway. Safeway has made great strides in offering vegetarian products (I think they might even carry field roast), but I've never seen tempeh there.

    Arrrghh! must...not...be..a...jerk...

Usually to the left of the tofu;)!?!

but really more in the vein of 'should' rather than 'can' go to Madison Market and check the freezer isle, I've been out of WA for a couple of years and maybe they don't anymore but they probs have giant hunks of frozen tempeh for a fraction of the price of the refrigerated packs and you don't have to check through a bazillion packs for the black mold. Tempeh thaws really fast, you just need a sharp serrated knife to cut off frozen chunks. If they don't have those anymore you're probably still better off buying it at MM than QFC because it's going to be moving a lot faster there, refrigerated tempeh grows old more rapidly than other soy products, and it's one of those things that are less expensive at co-ops than at regular supermarkets.

    Happy tempeh-ing!

Central Coop (aka Madison Market) carries tempeh in the refrigerated case next to the cheeses (to the right of the deli counter and back)
