Doctor Who Fans: Did David Tennant not want to leave the series?

Why does David Tennant cry at the end of his series "I don't want to go" as he regenerates into Matt Smith? Does he destroy the inside of the Tardis??

Was there some special significance to this?

No, from what I read David Tennant wanted to leave Dr. Who after so many years. It was just the words given to him. His character, the 10th doctor didn't want to regenerate. It was soooo sad.

I'm no help, but I'm eagerly anticipating what the Last of the Time Lords has to say about this...

I damn well nearly cry every time I think of the replacement of Tennnant with Matt Smith. Sure, he is a nice boy, but give me Eccleston or Tennant over Matt Smith any day.

Also, he does destroy the inside of the TARDIS - apparently resisting the regeneration made it much more violent. This is why the TARDIS begins to crash and must repair itself after the Doctor regenerates.

It was a terribly sad episode, but I think it's tied with Waters of Mars and Journey's End for that title. I do like the Eleventh Doctor, though I miss the confidence that the Tenth exuded.
