Best Cake in Seattle

It is soon my mother's birthday, and I want to buy her the best cake this town has to offer.
One caveat- not chocolate. It makes her jumpy. She likes fruit cakes, and anything involving whipped cream.

Money is no object.

    Aren't you nice!

I really like the cakes at Whole Foods, believe it or not.

The coconut cake at North Hill Bakery is really great.

Le Fournil on Eastlake makes some killer cakes too.

    You'll make your mother happy.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Chinese fruit cake. They usually have a sponge cake base and are topped with whipped cream and fresh fruit. There are at least two places in the ID that sells them: A Piece of Cake (514 S King St) and Cake House (620 S Weller St).

I really like Hiroki (2224 N 56th St) in Tangletown. Their cakes also have an Asian twist and are very light and refreshing. The mango Bavarian is my favorite.

Nielsen's (520 2nd Ave W) has great Scandinavian-style cakes. You can choose many combinations of flavors, but there "house" cake is white cake layered with custard and raspberry preserves. Its covered with a thin layer of whipped cream with marzipan laid over it. I love those cakes so much.

The Honey Bear Bakery has custom cakes made to order. I have used them twice for my daughter's birthday celebrations and was very pleased. Yum!
