Where can I find New York style pizza in Seattle?

My boyfriend grew up in New York and insists that all the pizza in Seattle is inferior. I believe there must be at least one place in the city with genuine New York-style pizza. The closer to the U District, the better.

You can't beat Big Marios. It is easily the closest to what a NYC-phile would be looking for. As a second choice, there is also Bruno's downtown on 3rd.

As an aside, it's true that Seattle doesn't really do New York style pizza well. But that is different than saying Seattle has inferior pizza.

What we're really good at is the wood fired/Neapolitan style: Tutta Bella, Via Tribunali, Serious Pie among others.

If he is willing to try a different species of pizza and has an open mind, I recommend heading to one these places to get a taste of what Seattle pizza can be.

"Big Marios" on Pike in Capitol Hill is as close as I've found. It's got the crust, sauce and cheese but is still missing the oil that drips off when you fold a slice and hold it upside down.

I gotta agree with Marty. Big Marios is the closest there is in this small town.

Proletariat Pizza in White Center makes awesome NYC pizza. It's worth the drive from the U District, trust me. (I grew up in Jersey; I know what I'm talking about.)
