Anime Films

Does anyone have a tip on where to download good quality anime films (Mamoru Oshii, Miyazaki etc.) without having to pay for them, or using torrents/rapidshare?

Leaving aside the legal (and moral) issues, some of these movies are beautiful, and I don't think bootleg internet downloads are going to match the quality of a DVD. Some torrents might come close, but you're not going to find regular downloads or streaming video of decent quality.

Libraries, in Seattle at least, seem to have a lot of anime on DVD these days. Your profile suggests that you live in Alaska, which could make it harder, but you might be able to use free inter-library loans that would get the films to your local library.

I tend to agree with Tom Sackett on this one; every bootleg I've seen has been disappointingly grainy. I know you asked about films specifically, but have you discovered crunchyroll.com? Lots of totally awesome anime series, streaming video-style. I've discovered a bunch of things I would have never heard of otherwise. There's a pay version, but we've found the free version to be completely adequate (we don't really mind the 1-2 brief commercials per episode).
