Cancelling Comcsat Business Service

I recently closed my business and wanted to cancel my Comcast phone and internet service. When I called them up they said I was under contract until mid 2012, so no I could not cancel it. They stated that in the fine print after the first two years of the contract are up they automatically renew it for two more years, how ever if I wanted to cancel or go month to month I have to give them written notice at that time. Bunch of BS. Anyone have any experience dealing with a situation like this?

I am not a lawyer but I'd be surprised if there was such a thing as an "automatically renewing 2 year contract".

I don't think they can hold you to a contract you never signed. And I doubt it's legal to sign a contract that says "you automatically sign all future ones".

Put on your customer service diva hat and start bitching up a storm. If they won't budge, get them down to the dollar amount it costs to kill the service inside of contract, and then (after threatening it repeatedly) take them to small claims court over it. I doubt they will show up and you will win.

Another option is to hit up consumerist.com to see if you can find "executive customer service" email addresses for Comcast (or Google "EECB comcast"). They respond somewhat well those since they are so widely hated.
