Advertised show time @Neumo's is 8:00 -- when should I arrive?

I almost never see live music, but tonight I'm going to Neumo's to see Cibo Matto. The show supposedly starts at 8:00, but I have a feeling that's not the time to show up. Everything starts late, right? What's the best time to show up for an 8:00 show? Thanks in advance.

Shows at Neumo's generally have multiple opening acts. A quick glance at their website lists what looks like one other act, in addition to Cibo Matto.

DOORS open at 8pm. Then it'll probably be closer to 8:30 or 9pm before the opening acts begin, with some breaks in between. I have found that main acts tend to not take the stage before 10pm. But know that it's general admission, and if you care about standing close to the stage, getting there by 9pm-ish is a good idea. There's always a rush of folks right before the main act takes the stage, and these people try to squeeze and push their way up front (making all the folks who've been standing there since 8pm VERY grumpy). Personally, I find the Neumo's crowd pretty tough to navigate through, so once we arrive, I plant myself...no going back for drinks and restroom trips, it's a pain in the butt.

However, Neumo's is GREAT about posting a 8.5" x 11" sheet listing the exact start times of each act right above the box office window. (I bet you could call them to ask for this info, as well). Typically we get to the hill by 8pm and search for that elusive street parking spot. Then we walk by the box office to find out when the acts we care the most about are going on stage. Then we'll stop in one of the lovely neighborhood bars for a drink or two, and wander back over to Neumo's around 9:30. (6 years ago we would always arrive before 8pm and stand eagerly up front. This meant that our feet were totally sore 3 hours later when the main act takes the stage. Relaxing with drinks for an hour or so beforehand has increased our enjoyment (and our tolerance of those pushy folks who show up at 11pm and squeeze up front).

    HAVE FUN!!

More succinctly: Show up anytime before 10, check set time at the door, kill remaining time by having fun and spending money at great local businesses.
