If a website uses paypal does that mean that the site is safe to enter my credit card info?

How do i know if the website is safe if there's not a security seal at the bottom of the page?

Not sure what you mean by "security seal" but you should see https:// on the URL. If you don't see the "s" then it's not safe.

If you do, then the chances are better. To be safer, login to your credit card site and they will (probably) provide you with a throway (one time use) number to use instead of using your real #. That way if there is a problem, it will stay localized.

If they use paypal, you shouldn't have to enter your credit card information. Just pay with your paypal account.

Using Paypal is actually like using a debit card. Paypal has your bank account information attached to your account with them. When you authorize a payment to a vendor or auction seller they request transfer of the appropriate amount of money directly from your account to Paypal and they transfer it to the other party. Your credit card information or bank account information is never crossing the ether to/from unsecured sites in the process. When I initially set up with them years ago they made two very minor deposits in my account and had me double check that these amounts of money made it into my account successfully (total of maybe 30 cents).

From then on I have often used the Paypal method of payment instead of entering a card number. One benefit is that you rarely have to enter any other address info, etc. If the item is being shipped to the address attached to your Paypal info you just authorize the payment and the shipping info goes to the vendor with the payment.

If the website doesn't use HTTPS on the page where it's asking for your CC info, it is most certainly not safe.

You could always post a link to the site in question.
