What the heck is blooming right now that is making me want to scratch my eyes out?

Started on Friday and no amount of Claritin seems to be doing the trick.

The sources that report pollen data say that Grasses are running in the Moderate to High range right now and Trees are in the Moderate range, neither of which is necessarily unusual for this time of year.

For me the symptoms are burning in my nose and sinuses and then later my eustachian tubes and ears are itchy and uncomfortable. I use air filters in the house for dealing with dust from the birds (and to also protect them from indoor pollution), so being inside in the more controlled atmosphere helps.

Be sure to change out of clothes that you have been wearing outside when you have come inside for the evening and take a quick shower to wash the pollen off your body and out of your hair. You bring it inside with you. Keep your bedroom as a clean zone so that you sleep in as much a pollen free zone as possible.

You also may want to obtain a neti pot and learn how to use it for rinsing your nasal passages and sinuses periodically. Your body attempts to flush it which is why your nose gets stuffy and sinuses fill but it is a long process to wash it out and down into your digestive system.

Grass pollen is pretty high right now, but if you're really sensitive to weeds that might be it. Or it could be both - who knows?

I usually check the NW Asthma & Allergy site to see what's bugging me. They also have a Pollen seasons chart is helpful, but they don't keep history of recent pollen counts. For that I check weather.com's pollen count, which uses the NWAA data.

I never found Claritin to work that well - Allegra works great for me, even if I don't take it everyday. Benadryl also works (and I believe is reliable for everyone) but does make you sleepy. If it's mostly your eyes that are bothering you, anti-histamine eye drops are the best relief - I use Visine-A, but my eye doctor also recommended Zaditor.

I'm in the same boat and just don't get what the heck is going on. My allergies haven't been this bad in years. the reported pollen counts are either to generalized or there is something else going on like stagnant air pollution.

I spend the today going from one sneezure to another and my eyes are so bad I'm afraid everyone thinks I am stoned. Which I very well may be, but I don't necessarily want to look like it. It's OK to be a stoner but you should never look or act like one. Tres de classe.

I've moved to on the the big guns- Benadryl. Knocks me out but is effective. Plus some sort of eye ointment I don't remember the name of but costs 3x what visine does. Works.
