I have a netbook that can't stream Netflix or higher resolution YouTube videos without stuttering.

Is there anything I can do to upgrade its performance, or is this the nature of most Netbooks? The memory is upgradeable in this one if that helps.

Flash/Silverlight is just a performance hog. You're unlikely to ever stream flash videos without issues.

Even when they're not wrapped in Flash, netbooks usually start faltering when they're asked to play videos higher than 480p as well.

I can play Netflix passably on my Dell Mini-9 with an earlier Atom processor, make sure you upgrade the ram to a 2 gigabyte stick.

Theres nothing to do. If your gonna go netbook, try to get one that says on the box that it supports HD video, or that has Nvidia Tegra graphics.

Best bet is to go to a store where one is on display and actually try to play some HD youtube and log into netflix and try it. That way you'll know for sure.
