Why am I allergic to Portland?

I'm in Portland on a business trip, and I've got the WORST allergies. This happens every time I come down here. Weird thing is, I NEVER get allergies back home.

Last time I was in PDX I kept getting the watery eyes and red-flushed skin. This time, it's the runny nose. I get sent down here frequently, and I get allergies acting up EVERY TIME.

My sister-in-law lives in PDX and says Portland newcomers frequently have allergy issues, but she doesn't know why.

Why does Oregon hate me?

What is it that I'm so allergic to in Portland that doesn't exist in Seattle?

Two words: Sod Farms. Oregon is the sod capitol of the world. If you are allergic to grass you shall be miserable periodically.

    Is there a seasonal variation?

You might be allergic to hippies. They have way more of them there.

Because Portland is in a valley where allergens can get trapped. Here in Seattle pollen blows in but it also blows out.

Have you traveled to other places recently and NOT experienced the same problems?

Where are you staying in Portland? Any chance you're reacting to the mildew, mold, or dust mites in a hotel room, or the dander from a friend's pet if you're couch-surfing? That sort of thing would be my first guess.

Have you had an allergy/stick test done in the last decade or so? Once you identify your allergens, it takes some of the guesswork out of trying to sidestep them.
