Does crab at the market get cheaper when the season opens?

I've never bought crab, so I wouldn't know. But, I'm kind of curious. The basic laws of supply and demand state that when crab season opens for recreational fishermen, the demand for purchasing Dungeness crab at the market should go down... judging by the 10-bajillion boats I see out setting crab pots.

But, I know that guys (and gals) like me who still go out onto Puget Sound and kill things ourselves and eat them are becoming fewer and fewer.

I'd really like to know, does the price of crab at the market go down during the recreational harvest season? (It basically runs from July to Sept., with some difference depending on which end of Puget Sound you hail from).

Well, I don't get it from the market - but I'll tell you crab straight from the boats is cheaper than market. (This isn't Wyoming! No reason to go to Safeway for seafood when you live in a port town).

And as far as supply and demand, it would also reason that prices might be highest when the new season first starts, since everyone (who doesn't fish) has gone without fresh for a while and will be willing to pay. That's how car sales work, anyway, right?
