Driving to and Parking at the Tacoma Dome

Taking 4 tweens to the sold-out Taylor Swift concert at Tacoma Dome in early Sep. What is the parking situation, Is it best to pre-arrange/pre-pay for parking? How long should we allow to get to the Dome, park, and walk to the entrance? How can we find out who the opening band is and what time Taylor will go on? Can we bring water bottles? Thanks for all yr help!

I only have a partial answer, but here's what I've experienced the last two times I've been to the Tacoma Dome. Parking/traffic is a nightmare, especially if the show is mid-week as you have evening rush hour to deal with as well. I don't know if the lots at T-Dome have shrunk, but we used to always just be able to park at the Dome. These last two times (a concert last year, and the "Be the Spark" event two months ago) the official T-Dome lots were full and they re-route you all throughout Tacoma, and the traffic is stop-and-go and it's super super stressful. Two years ago, when we DID get a spot in the official parking lot, it was $20. While it may seem ridiculous, I personally would try to leave the Seattle area as close to 5pm (or even a bit earlier), as I always prefer to kill time at the venue rather than miss something. *smile*

Sound Transit light-rail can be a great help, here. There is a station only two blocks from the dome (I know because the $15 private lot we finally found was way farther away, but we walked past this station on our way to the dome). I've not used it yet, but imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to drive to a park and ride/sound transit lot and then ride for a few stops to the dome. http://www.soundtransit.org/

I thought a quick trip to Taylor's website would list opening band info, but no such luck. But here is an official forum pertaining to the Tacoma Dome show, and you could probably ask about starting band, etc here. http://connect.taylorswift.com/forum/view/641/Seattle_WA_September_7 In my experience, the main act probably won't start until 8:30 or even closer to 9pm, but I'd hate for you to plan on that and miss out.

I'm guessing that water bottles will NOT be allowed, although T-Dome doesn't list its official policy online, which is frustrating. Also note that many shows do not allow any cameras with a detachable lens (they consider all SLR to be "professional" cameras and so not allowed). To be safe, don't bring it. Sometimes they officially ban all cameras, although in this world of fancy smart-phones, I think most promoters are not bothering with that anymore.

Also, a note on beer vendors: If you purchase a beer for yourself, know that often they will NOT let you take it to your seat (I guess that makes it too easy for you to give it to a minor?!?). So know that you'll have to pound your $9 beer in the hallway, if you decide to purchase it. Good luck and have fun.
