Why aren't you an organ donor?

I just received a replacement driver's licence in the mail. It came with a flyer encouarging people to be organ donor. I've always been one and it was the obvious choice for me. Also I thought most people where organ donors is that true? What are the reasons behind not becoming one?

I'd like to add, that maybe people don't have a reason that they don't donate. Since it's an optional question it's optional to answer it. No answer, no donation. Now maybe if the paperwork wasn't complete unless you made a choice there'd be less non-answers and prolly more donors.

There are people who are worried the more ambitious hospitals may be just a tiny bit more likely to let you die in a critical situation because you are a donor and they would like to have your expensive organs.

I had checked mine but then I got squeamish reading about some of the uses for donated tissues such as cosmetic sugeries and experiments which might be in questionable taste morally or otherwise. I have since learned, having lived in Britain during the Mad Cow Disease scare in the 90s, that I am not eligible to donate blood or breastmilk, and I believe this applies to organ donations as well.

They don't take blood or organs from the gays cuz they might be tainted with the AIDS.

1stly, not done using them yet.

Second, the morbid tastelessness of attaching organ donation to driving licenses squix me out. Make it part of voter registration instead?

Lastly, I have a "no soliciting' sign tattoo'd on my heart: There's, you know, some occasional trouble to be had (more often in medical dramas, but happens in real life too) if you're considered '99.9% hopeless' and the person in the ER bed next to yours is 'needing' your heart.
Docs, nurses and the transplantee's next of kin might wreak havoc on MY next of kin's emotions and judgement and my living will's intentions.
When you're comatose, you don't exactly get to sit up and say "Excuse me, I'd just as soon wait it out and see if maybe I can be that one in a million chance, so I'll be keeping the red squishy thing of mine, thank you very much."

So, I have explicit directions that once DEAD my heirs can be approached by harvesters and ok'ed by my intentions. Not solicited before.

I believe there are a couple reasons why someone wouldn't want to donate their organs. Primarily, it squicks a lot of people out. And then there are the religious reasons. Some believe that you can't enter the Kingdom of Heaven with an altered body. I am listed as an organ donor, but as a diabetic I don't think anybody is going to want my guts... Maybe some scientists will pickle my liver and dissect me as a teaching exercise. As long as whatever's left gets burnt to a crisp, I don't really care.

An acquaintance mine once answered that he wasn't an organ donor because they made you keep a card in your wallet. He was dead serious, as far as I could tell.

I guess it doesn't matter since he's obviously an android anyway.

The vampire-zombies control the organ donor trade. Don't trust them!
