Any Book Recommendations?

I just came off a Roberto Bolano binge (2666, Savage Detectives, Last Evenings on Earth) and then read The Secret History by Donna Tart and I need some direction on where to go from there. I loved how both authors had absolute killer characterization and really dug the subtle fantastic elements in 2666, Savage Detectives, and The Secret History. Subtle being the keyword there.

Anyone know of any books out there I could add to my summer reading list?

Try Carlo Emilio Gadda's That Awful Mess on the Via Merulana, Paul Auster's Invisible, The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro, Mr. White's Confession by Robert Clark, or Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl.

I often get recommended Tartt's The Secret History based on my love of Carol Goodman's novels - particularly her novel "The Lake of Dead Languages". "The Drowning Tree", "The Seduction of Water", and "The Sonnet Lover" (all Goodman) all incorporate classic myths/legends as a subtle way of inducing tone.

I'll be curious if the recommendation works backwards!
