Does your average liberal voter need to care about the Republican primaries?

I'm a very partisan Democrat voter, living abroad. I'm pretty dang certain that when the next presidential election rolls around, I'm going to vote for Obama regardless of who is opposing him. So, is there any reason why I should bother reading up on the latest developments on the Republican side? Or can I just block them out and tune in again in a year or so?

I enjoy (in a vague sense) knowing what the average Republican thinks and what their current media narratives are. I'm rarely surprised.

The Republican primaries are important for the country as a whole. As the latest debt ceiling fiasco has highlighted, the tail is capable of wagging the dog.

The reason you (or I) would never vote Republican is partially because they are controlled by the extreme right wing of their party. It's important that we keep a careful eye on these people because they are dangerous (as they have demonstrated).

It is important that we are vocal about our opposition to them rather than just grouping them under the general term Republican and to oppose them requires some knowledge of who they are and what they are saying.

Your average liberal seattle voter should be happy that the republicans are splitting their focus, time, resources and cash 20 different ways, and concentrate on giving their money to one guy.
Sadly for the dems, many liberals get caught up in the fear of "oh noes not THAT crazy right winger!" and forget to help the blue states. I think the dems could benefit from a little competition for Obama, even if just a token attempt, to keep the republicans equally distracted by the "oh noes" panic.
In seattle and WA state though, it's going to go Blue no matter what, so getting worked up at all about our electoral votes, regardless of what side you are on, can be kind of pointless.
