iPad/Laptop Connection Issues

We've got a guest using the wifi in our house on their iPad, and as soon as they connected, our laptop's wireless connection to the same router got really spotty. It would be connected just fine for 5-10 minutes, then drop for 15-20 seconds. I've never heard of something like this happening before - any thoughts as to why this is occurring and/or what I might do to troubleshoot (and resolve) the issue? I really haven't done much yet, other than to switch the ipad between the n & g bands on the dual-band router to see if it helped if they were on different bands (it didn't)...
