Is DADT over with now? Or is it still in place? I thought it was gone?

There were several months of post-DADT training and surveys and readiness procedures included in the bill. I believe September 20th is the official date when the repeal becomes active/implemented or whatever. This weird murky in-between time has been confusing for everyone, with outed soldiers in a tenuous position, and initially some soldiers were still being discharged (although I think the administration finally put a stop to that).

I hear HBO is going to be running a doc special about DADT's history. I don't have fancy cable, but I bet it will be a good program.

Article 125 of The Uniform Code of Military Justice still prohibits sodomy, which is defines as oral, anal or any other copulation not directed through the "sex parts" (yep, it uses "sex parts" in the definition).

It's OK to be gay now, but there is no form of sexual activity that you can perform, or have performed, that falls within the code of justice under which you are subject during your time in the military.

So, as long as you're gay, but don't have sex and don't talk about it, it's cool to be GI Fabulous. Otherwise, you are subject to a General Court Marshall (though I have no idea what the actual penalties would be for this "crime", but a hint might exist in that this is the same article of the UCMJ that prohibits child rape, and rape in general.)
