How to get a credit card quickly

Through a long string of clusterfuckery, Bank of America cut off my credit card & it's not able to be reactivated, and they won't approve me for a new one. I'm leaving next Friday to go to Mexico for a month, and I'm really like to have some back-up cash. Is it possible to get a credit card super quickly, that isn't then super shady? I imagine that any bank worth its salt isn't just approving people for credit cards left & right, but up until this snafu with BoA, I had really good credit (even know, I have a grand total of $600 in credit card debt and that's it...I'm not a bad credit card candidate in general!)

Any thoughts? I've been wanting to get away from BoA for a while now anyway, this just gave me extra impetus...

Maybe a credit union could help you out with this. They offer such personal service that perhaps a card could be delivered quickly or maybe your new card could be sent to you in Mexico. BECU has been great for me.

Good luck. Having a credit card in another country is reassuring. Hope something works out for you quickly.

If you do end up traveling only with a debit card (going off Isadora's comment) I would suggest you call your bank and make sure they know you are traveling to another country. Sometimes, if your bank doesn't know that you are traveling, they will block your debit card which can be very bad if you are trapped in an area without phone access and no money.

For the credit card issue, no clue. I would just stick with your debit card, and if things go bad have a friend or family on call to lend you some quick aid.

Many department stores have credit cards that you can sign up for instantaneously. They're not the best deals, but it sounds like that isn't your top priority right now.

If you're thinking of switching to a different bank, you could stop in and explain your situation. In my experience, banks REALLY want to sign up new customers, so you might get lucky.

You could also budget wisely and travel with a debit card only. I've done it and everything turned out fine. I do understand the appeal of wanting to travel with a line of credit in case of emergencies.
