  1 0 If you don't find a local jeweler, go to Etsy and type in "custom pendant," and then shop around and see what you get. It looks like there's several vendors that make custom pendants with pictures or scraps of paper, and a feather doesn't have that much more depth to it. Did you see that the artist is also an avian veterinarian? There also was a person that worked in glass and created small flat borosilicate glass containers for feathers to be worn as pendants. The chains were made from zipper halves. I lost the name and link for them and have not been able to find their Etsy listing since. Most of us who have birds as companion pets usually have bottles or vases filled with saved feathers in our homes. Russ Campbell, NWEBS commented 8 months ago | Report 0 0 Wow, small world! Yeah, I was always collecting the stray feathers and putting them in a special place; they were so gorgeous. The one I want to use for this project must have eight different brilliant colors in that single feather. I'm trying to find an approach that won't take away from or try to add to what is already so stunning on its own. That's why I was hoping for a super-simple way to have the quill held securely by an ornamental silver device of some kind, and let the rest of the feather just hang on its own, fully exposed. I'd be a bit reluctant to encase it in Lexan. Even feather earrings are easily damaged. To last, being encased is the best option. Behind glass or even encased in resin the material can serve as a magnifying glass (if properly shaped) and the details of the feather even more easily observed.
