Good cap hill bar for reading?

I occasionally like to crack open a book in the evenings, but find I am too easily distracted by other things at home. Cafes don't work in the evening because I am compelled to order coffee and then I am up all night. So the leaves the obvious choice of finding a bar stool and a pint. Unfortunately I have yet to find anything on the hill, so I am looking for suggestions. Noise isn't a problem and a bustle of activity is preferable to silence. Other than that I'm just looking for a spot with decent beer, an empty bar stool and not too dim lighting (don't need bright, just above candlelight). Smith is almost perfect until 8 when they pretty much turn off the lights.

The Hopvine has a great beer selection and booths for semi-privacy. I think that the lighting is fine too.

is this a ploy to get someone to say "Roy St Coffee"? You can get wine instead of coffee. Plenty of fellow readers there.

I'd say Stumbling Monk. Booths on slow days, good spots at the bar even on busy ones, and strong and tasty European (largely Belgian) beers on tap. Score!

The Living Room is great for reading.

It seems like Joe Bar would be good, although I've never been there in the evening; they have wine in addition to coffee, although I think closing time is at 9.
