We need nanny advice... Find one? Payment?

We need a nanny for our newborn 3 days a week (also interested in a nanny share)... But how do we find one? What sites have you used? What should we pay?

Parent Map magazine says 'a nanny for u', (despite their inability to spell) provides good nannies. "golden teddy bear" awarded.

NB? That's mighty young, if you don't mind my saying so -- any chance of taking more FMLA leave time before going back to work? (if that's the case)

You should also search the archives here for online parent resources

They cost a bit, but Shoreline CC has a great rep from the parents I've talked to:

Go to First Weeks at Birth & Beyond. The drop-in moms groups are facilitated by the excellent Ann Keppler, who can answer this question and everything else you need to know. You'll also meet other parents with babies in your kid's age range--and may meet someone who wants to share with you.

Childcare Resources has a great search tool for providers, but I don't think they do nannies. www.childcare.org

If you're willing/able to pay for pro search help, I worked for Annie's Nannies in college. They truly screen their applicants (called folks from my hometown whom I hadn't seen in years) and are on top of things. Membership fee seems a little steep to me, but if you have $250 (or someone wants to give you a great gift) it's worth it:

Join every listserve you can find. Most neighborhoods have one (Madrona Moms is famous) and they're a great way to quickly connect with other parents.
