Why don't Seattlites dance?

I'm getting tired of being one of the three people dancing at concerts. Why do people limit themselves to the head bob? Is it shyness or insecurity, aloofness, lack of interest or something else?

Because it's hard to video the band with your smart phone over your head and dance at the same time, and Seattlites know the potential for showing others that you had a good time is far more important than actually having a good time.

More seriously: I do think there is something to the stereotype of Seattlites being afraid of intimacy and scared of offending anyone, and dancing is a very direct, very fuck-you-I-don't-care-what-you-think form of public intimacy. The most basic hip swaying is about expressing something that can't fit in a status update or a tweet.

All or that said, Seattlites do dance. Most of the bands I've seen have had at least several people in the front dancing. In addition to what other people have said regarding actual dance venues, there is square dancing which is full of people who don't care about how they look dancing.

Go to a rockabilly show. People are cutting the rug with abandon.

I grew up in and around NYC and unless you inlude a seething pit damn few folks danced at punk rock shows there either. Depending upon what you mean by "dance".

The exception is and contiues to be jam bands. Pretty much everybody is dancing and often quite poorly. So I blamd jam bands. they ruined dancing for everyone. another crime they need to answer for.

    Seattle dances at:

    Non-armchair electro/house/dubstep events
    Blues/swing/soul nights
    Salsa
    Gay bars

Bands, no. Mayyyyyybe local pseudo-electro bands like USE. I've also been to "dance parties" at Chop Suey.

    Otherwise people are pretty static.

Because all the dancing people moved to Portland.
