Motorcycle parking

I recently recieved a parking ticket for parking my motorcycle in the U district on a sidestreet. The ticket was for parking backed in at an angle, the normal etiquette for a bike. I was not blocking, there was no curb, however the street is marked parallel parking only. Has anyone heard of such a ticket given. I and many others have parked motorcycles on this same street for well over the five years that i have been aware of the street.

Any municipality can pass more restrictive laws that apply within their city limits. The text that goes with the diagram that is linked through Christina L's post is:

"Parking at the roadside When parking in a space next to a curb, try to position the motorcycle at an angle with the rear wheel to the curb. (Note: Some cities have ordinances that require motorcycles to park parallel to the curb.)"

See the Motorcycle Guide for Washington State - (after downloading in the preferred format search for the term parking).

Here is the applicable page in the City of Seattle government site about motorcycle parking which does not mention any recommendations about compliance with parallel parking regulations.

Other websites that mention the techniques for parking in parallel parking spaces recommend angling the motorcycle for better visibility of the parked vehicle and safer return to the traffic lane upon starting up.

I would suggest calling the person listed on the bottom of the Seattle DOT page referenced above and telling your story:

"For more information on parking motorcycles in Seattle, contact Nora Chin at 684-5381 or   nora.chin@seattle.gov ."

You may end up going in to contest the ticket. (I would suggest taking in some photographs of the area, including those with some motorcycles parked in that manner with you.) But perhaps the DOT person can intervene in the matter.

Only moron parking enforcement officers do that.
Witness how to park a motorcycle in a parallel parking spot according to the Washington State Motorcycle Manual.
Dispute the ticket and remind the Parking Enforcement Squad that Seattle is in Washington State and you had a two-wheeled motorized transport vehicle, so you parked the way the Washington State Motorcycle Manual instructed.
