Problems joining Steam...

I've been tring to sign up for Steam since yesterday when there was a slog post about a free game available. I can't seem to do it. It keeps telling me to try again.

I've tried using various email accounts including subscription service and even a super high security .gov account. I've tried firefox and explorer. I've tried various possible user names including nonsense words.

Anybody out there able to help?

Are you sure you are in the "new account" portion and not the "login" section?

I just tried to make an account, and everything was fine except that I couldn't actually get the little letters on their verification bar to work. Kept telling me I had the wrong letters/numbers.

I'm having the same problem - can't log in and the verification code doesn't work, so I think there IS a problem on their end.

I think that their verification code thing is freaking impossible to read.

Finally got it to work by entering through a different portal. Or, I finally got the anti spam-bot code thing right.

As far as I could tell there are two seperate "create an account" portals and one was not recognizing test correctly.

Seems odd, I never experienced any issues signing up. Try another browser, another PC, another ISP. From work perhaps?

That's the best advice. Steam I believe still depends on the IP so there may be (or have been) an issue with your IP or ISP (or the ISP local server's IP).

Yeah, sometimes when you can't get to one site, there's a routing error somewhere in between that's screwing you up.

I have seen this happen to a friend a little over a year ago. He had to call and reset it over the phone.
