How many bags of ice will it take to fill a bath tub?

Can someone tell me roughly how many bags of ice it will take to fill a standard bath tub?
Or tell me how many gallons of water does a standard bath tub hold, then how to convert gallons into dry weight?

Most tubs are 40-60 gallons. Off the top of my head, I'd say a bag of ice is about 2 gallons, so you're looking at 20-30 bags. I'll bet it'll pack down, though, and it'll be a LOT less when it starts to melt, so you might need as much as twice that.

This guy's bathtub is about 45 gallons.

This says a cubic foot of crushed ice is 35 to 45 pounds.

This says 1 US gallon = 0.133680556 cubic feet

    45 * 0.133680556 = 6.01562502

    6.01562502 * 35 = 210 and 6.01562502 * 45 = 271

These are 20 pounds, so you need at least 210 / 20 = 10.5 of them, but to be on the safe side you should get 271 / 20 = 13.55

    Fourteen 20-pound bags.

Perhaps ErinP is storing a body for a memorial...

50 bags, use half, then put the body in, then fill the rest of the way.
