Stadium vs. Arena Concerts

I just saw that Madonna's 2012 concert tour includes a stop at Centry Link stadium on July 30. It was interesting to see all of her US tour stops are stadium concerts. What makes stadium concerts so great? It seems to me that arena concerts would be better, but then I've never been to a stadium concert... Any thoughts on this?

In general, there is nothing great about a stadium concert, except for the amount of money they make per show. Compared to an arena show, the sound quality tends to suffer and it's harder to see the stage.

There are bands who have gone to great lengths to make stadium shows look and sound great, so it is possible to do this right. For the most part, this exception applies to ancient rock acts, such as Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead. Two things these bands have in common: superbly engineered sound systems, and they don't move around much on stage so there's nothing to see there anyway. I'm guessing that Madonna will not fall into this category.

10-40K tix at an Arena vs 40-100K tix at a stadium.

Key arena can seat maybe 18K for a concert-probably much less.

CentLink can seat 70K or so.

What's the difference between a stadium and an arena exactly?

Also, could you please refer to that stadium as "The Clink" so we do not have to hear that heinous company name plastered over our public building that we bought and paid for. Thanks.

Also I like the fact that Clink = Prison so it smacks a little of the old Roman Arena (which is the only arena I'm familiar with and it looks a lot like a stadium to me).
