Is it bad to drink water while you eat? Some people think it dilutes your digestive process. Any scientific explanation either way would be great!

I can't imagine why having more fluid in your digestive track would be a problem. As opposed to what? Sugary cola drink? Milk and diary drinks?

This sounds like the worst of folk science. No, it's not bad to drink water while you eat and it does not disrupt your digestive process. I don't know what kind of scientific explanation you were asking for except the fact that this claim is not based in any real science. Drinking water is good for you.

I love water, it's my favorite drink!

After searching online, there seems to have both claims wether or not it is good to drink water/juice is good or bad for your digestive system during meals.

Here's a claim that it is bad.

    2. Minimize drinking water and other fluids while eating.

Drinking water and other fluids can cause dilution of stomach acids and digestive enzymes, making them less effective at breaking down food. Whenever possible, it is best to drink fluids before and two hours after meals. Reducing the amount of salt and spices added to foods is helpful in reducing the need to drink fluids with meals.

My opinion is, logically it makes sense that water/fluids dillutes acids and enzymes and slowing it's effort down to do it's job, there's already water in the food.

Does it make it true? no but it's enough for me.. I try to not drink so much while I eat.

Drinking ice cold beverages with meals isn't great for digestion. Any liquid dilutes the enzymes in the stomach that are used in digestion. Cold liquids require more metabolism to raise the temp of the drink to body temp and can diminish the metabolic processes actually used for digesting foods. Generally, if you are going to drink with a meal, your best bet is to have one glass of a warmer beverage and sip it throughout, but avoid too much liquid for the half hour surrounding the meal. But drinking enough liquids throughout the day is essential. And starting out the day with warm liquid helps promote peristalsis\, which is a good thing.

I feel the same way about water as W.C. Fields, "I don't drink water, because fish screw in it."
