I'm looking for a book club in Seattle. Hopefully one that reads contemporary fiction. Any recommendations?

This may or may not meet your needs/interests, but most of the city's libraries host monthly book groups; you can search them and see what they're reading and where/when they're meeting by going to the library's Calendar of Events and selecting Book Groups under the "Event Type" tab. These groups generally supply reading copies to members - free of charge, of course - and I do believe that the majority of what our groups discuss is contemporary fiction.

Although they aren't for everybody, one really great thing about the library's book groups - in my view - is that you will find yourself discussing books and life and other weighty matters with people you might never say two words to otherwise. They're much more heterogenous that the typical private book group, which I just love. We also have a poetry discussion group, and - following in Questionland's footsteps here - we're just now launching our first virtual book group, called Book Chat. The first book is Abraham Verghese's "Cutting for Stone," and discussion will begin next month.
