"Most authentic" and "best" aren't the same thing, you realize. A lot of Indian food is delicious because it's got a whole stick of butter in every dish.

For "most authentic" I would nominate Punjab Sweets, in the Kent Highlands, Spice Route in Bellevue Overlake, or Preet's in Redmond. Also Mayuri in Bellevue and Bothell. The many Indian restaurants in Seattle, which all seem to be related to each other, are adequate, tasty but nothing special.

If you ever get up to Vancouver eat at Vij's.

Not an answer, but just throwing it out there. The best Indian food seems to be on the East Side, rather than Seattle, due to the larger Indian population there. Unless you're just looking for something close, you're probably asking about the wrong city. (Think Samammish, Bellevue, Redmond, ect).

It's been awhile since I went there, but I like the food at Chili's Deli & Mart in the U-District. It's South Indian food, which is different than most other Indian restaurants around Seattle. Actually it's not a restaurant - it's a remodeled mini mart, so not the best ambiance. But the food is good.

I couldn't tell you whether it's authentic or not, but some people on yelp who claim to know South Indian food say it is. The service has always been pretty slow, but the people who own the place are really friendly.

Another maybe/maybe-not-authentic but delicious thing to try is the paneer pizza at Can-Am Pizza in Bellevue or Bothell. I've had it a couple of times; so good! It comes with raita (?) dipping sauce.

+1 for Mayuri. They have an outpost at the Microsoft Commons and you wan watch them cook the naan in tandoor ovens. Their food is great and there are always a million Indians lined up for their lunch specials. I've also eaten at their restaurant in Crossroads (next to Trader Joe's) -- great.

My other favorite is Annapurna Cafe on Broadway. I can't speak to how authentic the food is, but it's delicious. I love the maps of the Himalayas they have on their walls.

I don't know how "authentic" it is, but A Taste of India (on Roosevelt) is fucking delicious.

That place is packed every night...but it's okay, because they give you hot chai to drink while you wait.

    Yum.

Travelers Thali House on Capitol Hill and Beacon Hill is exceptional.
