I want to sell a subsidized iPhone 4S

Here is my situation. I'm currently still using a Nexus One on AT&T. I stuck with AT&T because my wife wanted an iPhone (currently still using a 3GS) and at the time; that was my only choice. I wanted an Android phone, and the Nexus One was pretty much the only thing that didn't suck on AT&T.

My contract has been up for a long time. My wife's still has a few months left on hers. I'd like to upgrade to a Galaxy Nexus, but I think the chances of AT&T selling a subsidized one is pretty slim. So I'm considering buying an unlocked one. I'm wondering though if I should extend my contract with AT&T (I'm going to be extending the contract somewhere anyway when my wife gets a 4S) and get a subsidized iPhone 4S. I could then turn around and sell it and use that to pay for part of the Nexus.

Has anyone ever done this? It seems like a pretty backwards thing to do, but until AT&T gives me a discount for bringing my own device, it seems like it's the best way to go.

If you do not have a subsidized phone can you get a cheaper contract rate?

You need to work out the total cost that would amount from your plan (less a reasonable price for the 4S), and compare it to the total cost of of getting the Galaxy and the contract rate you'd get with no phone included. It is just a dollar question, seems to me.

Bearing in mind that if you include a phone in the plan and then lose/damage your phone you are still up for the plan and added expense of getting a new one. I'm not a fan of subsidized phones for that reason, despite never having lost/damaged one.

Why would ATT not offer a subsidized GN? Verizon is pricing it at $300; it wouldn't make any sense for another US carrier to have a different price point.
