Which insurance company sucks least?

I have a homeowners policy with Statefarm but dislike my agent. It's personal. I have comprehensive coverage on my family car from Pemco, who have been great to me but seem to piss off a lot of people on Yelp (though who rates an insurance company on Yelp except for folks with an ax to grind?). I have a bare bones auto insurance policy for my beatup pickup truck through Geico.

I need to buy about $100K in term life.

Anyone out there in questionland able to recommend an agent or a particular company?

Thanks.

My folks have been with Peter Beeson of "Seattle Insurance Agency" for decades. I've been with them for auto for about 9 years and homeowners for 3 years. It's a small family-run business out of west seattle, although they can obviously cover you anywhere in the area. It's a father and son team, both named Peter, but they refer to themselves as "Number One" and "Number Two" rather than Senior and Junior.

    SEATTLE INSURANCE AGENCY, INC.
    PO Box 16488
    Seattle, WA 98116-0488

Oh, most of their policies seem to be through Liberty Northwest (who joined with Safeco two years ago). I've been VERY happy with my coverage, and they took great care of me when I was in an accident a few years ago.

I really like John Norton of American Family Insurance:

If you're a vet, or the child of a vet, it's hard to beat USAA (and, you can be their customer if not a vet or family member of a vet, but I believe the rates are better if you are).

Other than that, I'd recommend Pemco or State Farm (unsure if Pemco offers life insurance, but I know State Farm does). The only issue with Pemco, being as small and good as they are, is that they may get taken over in the near future as regional insurance companies are becoming a thing of the past in the P&C/Life end of the business.

If the idea of finding another State Farm agent is distasteful to you, pick another mutual Company (Safeco is also regional, but is now under the Liberty Mutual umbrella of insurance companies).

Insurance is all about who is gonna screw ya the least. Mutual companies are not beholden to stock holders and their fickle, quarterly profit oriented nature, so they are better able to make decisions that keep them viable in the long-term. Beyond that, regional companies have some "skin in the game" in the region in which they operate, and of course, an institution dedicated to serving veterans, is a good option if you are a veteran or family member thereof.

Good Luck. Buying insurance is about as fun as being skull raped with an ice pick.
