Is it legal to shoot a gun within city limits?

Lets just say that I made a nearly soundproof shooting range in my basement. Legal?

I have always been under the impression that discharge of a firearm is very very illegal within the city limits of every incorporated place in Washington state.

I am not a legal expert, but I am a gun owner and a hunter, and the shotguns and rifles in my closet are never, ever fired unless I'm miles and miles away from the nearest civilization out in the Cascades or the San Juans.

I would venture to guess that the City of Seattle would interpret their code to mean that you would be endangering property and life by discharging your weapon in the basement, no matter how many precautions you take.

This is a bad idea, and I want to talk you out of it if I can. Stray bullets can be lethal to over a mile. Guns just should not be fired within cities.

If you want to be able to shoot indoors, I highly recommend you cross Lake Washington and go to Wade's Eastside Guns. Their rates are quite reasonable, and they are open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM seven days a week. http://www.wadesguns.com/

You can also target shoot in most areas of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. You can get the information on where shooting is and is not allowed by calling the forest office in Everett at 425-783-6000 or visiting the forest office in the flagship Seattle REI store.

There are plenty of safe places to shoot within a half hour's drive of Seattle. Please avail yourself to one of these opportunities instead of shooting guns in your basement.

I will be the first one to stand up and defend the right of responsible Americans to own and use guns, but they should not be discharged in urban environments. That is irresponsible and dangerous. Please don't do it.

Let's just say Sure. well-- is there a reasonable likelihood of jeopardy to property, animals or people?

    "Seattle -SMC 12A.14.071

    Discharge of a firearm.
A person is guilty of discharge of a firearm if he or she wilfully
discharges a firearm in a place where there is a reasonable likelihood that
humans, domestic animals or property will be jeopardized."

--Better make sure that shooting range is set up so no stray bullets can get outside or bounce back.

    Thats awesome by the way
